Welcome to: Regional Farmers Markets (RFM)
The purpose of a Farmers Market is to reconnect the community to the people who produce their food for their mutual benefit and enjoyment.
Consumers have become more discerning about the quality of the food they place on their tables. RFM provides an opportunity for you to talk with farmers and producers and learn more about various products, nutrients, uses and innovative recipes on offer at our markets.
The philosophy of a farmers market is not to compete with supermarkets on price but to offer true value to consumers and the farmers who grow the food. Farmers markets offer fair exchange for the time and energy put in by farmers and producers to grow and make top quality foods, which will feed and nourish their customers.
As farmers markets have grown in strength and number over the last decade or so, RFM as an active member of the Victorian Farmers Market Association (VFMA) is now taking the next step to assist the community to have a better understanding and knowledge of the food they eat.
RFM is fully committed to upholding the highest integrity and standard of farmers markets and therefore fully endorses the new VFMA accreditation process.
As one of the original founders of farmers markets in Australia in 1999, RFM has established and now manages markets in Melbourne and throughout Country regions of Victoria. Today we operate 11 farmers markets and have plans to open several more in the coming twelve months - making RFM Australia's largest operator in this field.
We publish and manage RFM market criteria that are in alignment with the VFMA accreditation criteria, and we are strong advocates for consistent, practical and ethical management practices. As with other VFMA operators, our Victorian markets feature farmers and producers selected from only Victorian regions. Our markets located in country regions give priority to local farmers and producers to ensure authenticity and support for their local community.
